Role Description

Mercor is seeking PhD holders, doctoral candidates, and exceptional Master’s graduates in chemistry and related fields to join a high-impact AI research initiative in collaboration with a leading artificial intelligence lab. This position focuses on evaluating and improving large language models (LLMs) by leveraging deep subject-matter expertise in chemistry to rigorously assess model accuracy, reasoning, and scientific depth across advanced chemical disciplines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Evaluate the

  • Review outputs on topics spanning

    molecular structure, kinetics, thermodynamics, catalysis, reaction mechanisms, and industrial processes

  • Identify and document

    factual inaccuracies, logical inconsistencies, and reasoning gaps

  • Provide

    structured feedback and benchmarking

    using specialized evaluation tools.
  • Work

    independently and asynchronously

    as part of a distributed research team.

Requirements


  • PhD (or PhD candidate)

    in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biochemistry, or a closely related field.
  • Strong command of

    graduate-level chemistry concepts

    and scientific problem solving.

  • Excellent written communication

    and analytical thinking skills.
  • Ability to

    work independently in a remote, asynchronous environment

  • Proficiency in Python

    for data analysis or model evaluation workflows preferred.

Compensation
